About

Since 2013, the Alaska Tribal Administrators Association (ATAA) has been dedicated exclusively to strengthening the administrative capacity of Alaska Tribal governments. We serve Tribal Administrators with practical support, training, peer connection, and affordable professional services designed for the unique realities of Tribal governance in Alaska.

ATAA’s work supports Tribal governments in delivering essential services, managing complex federal and state programs, and sustaining long-term community wellbeing. Our approach is rooted in everyday Tribal administration rather than nonprofit frameworks, and guided by governance that is 100% Tribal-member elected.

OUR MISSION

To cultivate a collaborative atmosphere of knowledge sharing and professional support among Alaska’s Tribal administrative professionals and to promote effective Tribal administration that advances Tribal self-governance, community sustainability, and leadership excellence.

GOVERNANCE

ATAA represents Tribal Administrators across Alaska and is governed by its voting members, all of whom are Tribal Administrators or their delegates. These members elect the Board of Directors — President, Secretary, and Treasurer — and set organizational priorities through a consensus-based resolution process.

SHARED TRIBAL SERVICES

Our Shared Tribal Services provides affordable, hands-on technical support in areas such as accounting, program management, grant development, and interim administration. These are services delivered by vetted professionals who have worked with Tribes and understand Tribal governance.

ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

Each spring, ATAA hosts the Annual Symposium. A multi-day event featuring practical training, peer exchange, policy updates, and governance best practices. The symposium is open to all Alaska Tribes and Tribal staff, regardless of membership.

All Alaska Tribes, whether ATAA members or not, have access to the information and best practices we share, helping to strengthen Tribal administration statewide.
